Discover the World of Decaffeinated Coffee at CAFESCA

At CAFESCA, we understand that many coffee lovers seek the rich flavors of coffee without the stimulating effects of caffeine. Our range of decaffeinated products is designed to meet this demand while maintaining the quality and taste that our customers expect. In this blog, we will explore the various decaffeination processes we utilize, highlighting their unique characteristics and benefits.

Decaffeination: The Art of Caffeine Removal

Decaffeination is the process of extracting caffeine from coffee beans while preserving their essential flavors and aromas. There are several methods to achieve this, each with its own advantages:

  1. Decaffeinated with Methylene Chloride (MC) (CAFESCA´S METHOD)
  2. Decaffeinated with Ethyl Acetate
  3. Decaffeinated with Supercritical CO2
  4. Decaffeinated by Water (MW) (CAFESCA´S METHOD)

Each method offers different profiles and characteristics, allowing you to choose the best option for your brand.

Decaffeinated with Methylene Chloride (MC)

The MC method is one of the most commonly used processes for decaffeination. Here’s how it works:

  1. Moisten the green coffee beans with water.
  2. Immerse the beans in methylene chloride.
  3. Remove the beans from the solvent and dry them in an evaporator to eliminate any residual solvent.
  4. Wash the beans to ensure all solvent residues are removed.
  5. Dry the beans with hot air.

This method effectively retains the coffee's aroma and flavor while being cost-effective. It is widely used due to its efficiency and ability to produce a high-quality decaf product.

Decaffeinated with Ethyl Acetate

Ethyl acetate is another popular method for decaffeination, known for its slightly sweet flavor profile.

This method also preserves much of the coffee's original flavor, making it a favorite among many roasters.

Decaffeinated with Supercritical CO2

For those seeking a premium decaf option, the supercritical CO2 method stands out.

While this method is more expensive, it ensures that the coffee's aroma and flavor remain intact, making it an excellent choice for high-end products.

Decaffeinated by Water (MW)

The water method is often favored for organic coffees:

  1. Moisten the coffee beans with water.
  2. Submerge them in water mixed with caffeine-reduced green coffee extract.
  3. Through osmosis, caffeine is extracted over 8-10 hours.
  4. Dry the beans with hot air.

This process preserves both aroma and flavor, resulting in a balanced cup that appeals to discerning customers.
